We all want to be loved, but at what expense do we give ourselves over to another person to have that love? What price do we pay when we are disappointed because someone did not love us the way we thought we needed to be loved or except us for the way we are or behave?
That is the path of pain and pleasure in this life; to embark upon the journey, to discover and open to that ambiguous emotion we call love.
We have all kinds of people and conditions in our lives that stir us up emotionally, we have platonic lovers, as wells as familiar people all who we have close bonds with. Some stay around because they genuinely love with an open heart and others leave because their conditions and expectations were not met. We've all been there, staying and leaving.
The whole point of self-love is understanding what it means and feels like to love/like ourselves in a healthy way that we become the compliment to the people we connect with. When we feel good about ourselves, and understand that this journey is about differences and humans are an energetic field of emotions that are constantly shape shifting. We can start appreciating ourselves for being who we are; a fireball of emotions subject to change at any moment, and it is ok.
When we know ourselves more we will love/like the people in our lives just the way they are; complicated, beautiful, loving humans who want what we want to feel loved and be loved; acceptance is key to being happy within, feeling fully alive with an open heart.

You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly. – Sam Keen
